Reviewing Search Results

This tutorial shows you the features and functions available on the search results page.

Your search request displays at the top of the page.

Search results from other content sources may be available.

To modify your original search request, click the Edit link.

To store the search request for future recall or reuse, click the Save link.

If you are not logged in, you will be prompted for your user name and password.

To schedule an automatic run of the search at a chosen frequency with e-mail notification of the search results, click the Save as Alert link.

To have any new documents found in Scopus which match the criteria of the search added to your RSS reader, you can subscribe to an RSS feed.

To go to your Search History page, click the Search History link.

The Refine Results table categorizes the information elements of the documents.

You can refine your search results by excluding or limiting to specific information of the categories.

You can add categories to the Refine Results table.

You can also move the categories to change the order in which they appear in the table.

You can remove categories that are not relevant to your research.

If you save the new categories, they will be included in the Refined Results table in your next session.

When there are more than three entries in a category, a "More..." link is available.

Within the expanded list, you have an option to sort the category alphabetically.

Let's look for an article that was published in the International Journal of Cancer in 2003.

Reducing the results list makes it much easier to locate the article you're looking for.

You can also refine your results list by entering additional keywords in the Search within results field.

Let's return to the original results list and look at the sorting features available.

The documents are listed in order of publication date, most recent date first.

You can change the sort order of the documents by clicking the appropriate column heading.

Click the arrow in the sorted heading to reverse the order of the document list display.

Click an author name to retrieve a results list of the documents written by the author.

The Cited By number represents the number of documents that cite the document listed. Click the number to retrieve a list of those documents.

Let's look at the additional functionality available with your results list.

To print, export, e-mail, or create a bibliography, select the documents and click the Output button.

To generate a Citation Overview, select the documents and click the Citation tracker button.

To add documents to a list for future access, select the documents and click the Add to list button.

To download the PDF version of the documents, select the documents and click the Download button.

If a PDF version of a document is not available, the abstract of the document will be downloaded.

To view the references of the documents, select the documents and click the References button.

To view a list of documents that have cited the documents, select the documents and click the Cited by button.

You can see at a glance if you have access to the full-text document.

If a document has been accepted for publication but not yet assigned to a volume/issue, Article in Press appears below the source title information.

Click the Show Abstract link to display the abstract text without leaving your search results.

To view the document, click on one of the available document formats listed.
